Where to Start if You’re Looking to Plan a 2027 Walt Disney World Vacation
If you are already having thoughts about a trip to Walt Disney World in 2027, and don’t know where to start, you’ve come to the right place. As a working parent, I know that your time is limited, and making extra time to plan and research for a vacation is simply not in the schedule. So until we can see 2027 packages and start planning, I have created a simple planning guide to help map out the basics of what could be your next trip.
With a little prep now, we’ll be ready to book your 2027 vacation the moment packages are released!
Step 1: Your Length of Stay
Are you looking to do a week-long stay and experience as much as Walt Disney World has to offer:
A 6 night stay with 4 parks days and an off day (ex. Arrive on Monday, depart on Saturday)
I always prefer to place my off day in the middle of the trip in order to rest and recharge for the remainder of the trip.
Maybe a 7 night stay with 4 or 5 days of park days with multiple off days (ex. Arrive on Monday, depart on Monday)
Off days can be used to go to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach (Water Parks), going to special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, or visiting Disney Springs shopping district.
A shorter trip may be ideal for those on a smaller budget or only have so much time available to take PTO or be absent from school:
A 4 night stay with 3 days of tickets
Base tickets you would visit 1 park per day
Park Hopper tickets could be ideal in this situation so that you have the chance to visit all 4 parks, as Park Hopper tickets allow you to visit multiple parks in a day
Step 2: Time Your Trip Wisely
Crowds, weather, and pricing at Walt Disney World can vary a lot depending on when you visit, so timing really matters when planning your trip.
If you’re hoping for lower crowds, aim for mid-January through early February, mid-May, or late August through September. These windows tend to be a sweet spot with lighter crowds and often better pricing.
On the flip side, peak times include spring break, mid-October, Thanksgiving week, and the stretch from Christmas through New Year’s—when demand (and prices) are at their highest.
It’s also important to think about when your travel party can realistically go. Do you need to plan around holidays to maximize PTO? Or work within your kids’ school schedule? If you’re not tied to school calendars, traveling while most kids are still in school usually means fewer crowds in the parks..
You’ll also want to consider if there’s a specific season or event you’d love to experience. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs from mid-August through October, while the holiday season brings Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Disney Jollywood Nights from mid-November through December.
Step 3: Choose the Right Resort
With there being over 25 resorts at Walt Disney World, the trickiest part usually is where to lay your head at night. And while having a comfy bed is important, a lot more should go into picking your resort. Your Vacation Planner will help you to narrow down the options, but here is a great breakdown of the categories of resorts:
Value Resorts (e.g., Pop Century, All Star Movies): Best for budget travelers and families with young kids.
These resorts are bright, over the top theming, but limited amenities
Art of Animation as well as All Star Music has Family Suites that sleep up to 6 people, great for larger families
Moderate Resorts (e.g., Port Orleans - Riverside, Coronado Springs): Great balance of price and amenities.
Caribbean Beach is the perfect escape to tropical islands with easy access to Hollywood Studios and EPCOT via the Skyliner
Deluxe Resorts (e.g., Riviera, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge): Ideal for guests wanting luxury, proximity to parks, stunning theming, numerous dining options, and Deluxe Extended Evening Hours.
This category has the most options to pick from, definitely something for everyone. An elegant stay awaits you at the Grand Floridian or Riviera, or if you’re looking for the beach, the Beach Club, Polynesian Village or BoardWalk Inn may be your speed.
