Things I’d Never Do Again at Walt Disney World

We LOVE traveling to Walt Disney World. We’ve taken our kids at least once a year for the past 5 years.
And I’ve made almost every mistake in the book.
I’ve over planned. I’ve under-hydrated. I’ve tried to “maximize” days that didn’t need maximizing. I’ve fainted in a resort bathroom trying to make early entry after a late-night event.
So if you’re planning your first trip — or your fifth — here are the things I personally would never do again… and how I help families avoid these pitfalls so their Disney trips are smooth and magical.
Mistake #1: Two Parks in One Day with Two Dining Reservations
I thought this would be efficient. Two parks, two sit-down meals — in theory, perfect. In reality? Exhausting. Rushing between parks and dining times left us stressed, tired, and less present.
What I do now: One park per day, one sit-down max, and lots of room for flexibility.
How I help my clients: I build custom itineraries that balance park days, dining, and downtime so families don’t feel rushed or overbooked. You still get the must-do experiences without the stress of shuffling between parks.
Mistake #2: Buying Park Hoppers “Just in Case” for Little Kids
On our first trip, my kids were 4 and 6. We bought park hoppers thinking we’d need them. We never used them once. Little kids don’t care about hopping parks — they just want to explore.
What I do now: Pick a park, stay put, and let the day breathe. No added stress.
How I help my clients: I recommend whether park hoppers are actually worth it based on your kids’ ages, park strategy, and the overall pace of your trip — saving both money and headaches.
Mistake #3: Scheduling Early Entry After an After Hours Event
One of my more… dramatic mistakes. I planned early entry after a late-night event, and I fainted in the bathroom getting ready. Not fun.
What I do now: Sleep > strategy. Choose either early entry or late events — not both — and build in recovery mornings.
How I help my clients: I create realistic park day schedules that take into account early entry, after-hours events, and travel between resorts, so you get the benefits without the burnout.
Mistake #4: Relying on Water Refill Stations Alone
We didn’t order a case of water for our room and relied solely on refill stations. The Florida heat + long walks = subtle dehydration all day. I felt it in every step.
What I do now: A case of water in the room, hydration packets, and built-in breaks.
How I help my clients: I include practical tips like water, snacks, and rest spots in every itinerary so families stay energized and enjoy the day instead of dragging through it
Mistake #5: Not Paying Attention to Bus Schedules
We thought we could just “catch the next bus” to the park. One late bus later, we missed a reservation and felt behind all day. Timing matters more than you think.
What I do now: Leave early, know your resort’s schedule, and build in a buffer.
How I help my clients: I handle all the logistics — resort transportation, timing for dining, Lightning Lanes, and park entry — so families can relax knowing they’ll arrive on time without stressing about buses or connections.

Mistake #6: Not Explaining Plans Beforehand
I rushed my daughter and dragged her to opposite ends of EPCOT during early entry to ride both Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After. She didn’t know what we were doing, the walk was fast-paced, and she melted down.
What I do now: Explain the plan the night before, show pictures, let the kids buy in. A little prep = huge difference.
How I help my clients: I guide families on age-appropriate park strategies, including which rides to prioritize and how to introduce kids to the day’s plan, keeping meltdowns minimal and fun levels high.
Mistake #7: Trying to plan minute by minute
I once tried to schedule our entire day, ride by ride, WITH TIMESTAMPS. Lines fluctuate, kids fluctuate, and even the best-laid plans can go sideways. Leaving the day completely unstructured isn’t the answer — there still needs to be a plan.
What works: Build a flexible plan with 2–3 priority rides, Lightning Lanes where it makes sense, and backup options in case a line is unexpectedly long. The key is having a roadmap, but knowing when to pivot.
How I help my clients: I craft itineraries that hit the must-do rides without turning every day into a rigid schedule. Families get a clear roadmap and know exactly what to do next — stress-free, flexible, and fun.
