What Nobody Tells Frugal Moms About Booking Disney

So when someone tells me they want to save money on a Disney vacation? I get it. I really get it.

But here's the thing I've learned after planning Disney trips for families — and living them myself:

The cheapest option is not always the best value.

• Price is what you pay.

• Value is what you actually get.

When you're planning Disney, it's easy to zero in on the cost of the resort or the dining plan or the ticket tier.

But the better question is:

“What is my family actually getting for what we're spending?”

A lower price might look like the smarter choice — until you realize what came with it.

Here's a real example: Location

A resort that saves you money upfront might also mean 45 minutes of transportation every single day. That's an hour and a half of your family's time — every day — waiting for buses, loading strollers, managing tired kids who just want to be back at the hotel.

As a mom, and especially as a special needs mom, when I travel with my son, we stay deluxe. That’s a very intentional choice for us. The closer proximity to transportation, the more convenient access to the parks, the quieter atmosphere, and the added amenities all make a real difference in how our days feel. When we can get back easily, reset, and step away from the chaos when needed, the whole trip goes more smoothly.

When it’s just my husband and me, we usually choose moderate resorts. It still feels comfortable and well-located, but we don’t need quite as much built-in convenience for the way we travel together.

And when I’m traveling with friends, value resorts can be the perfect fit — because the focus shifts more toward time in the parks and shared experiences, and we’re less concerned about resort amenities.

Each one serves a purpose. It’s never about “best” or “least expensive” — it’s about what supports the kind of trip we’re actually taking.

Value isn’t just about what you pay upfront. It’s about what you get back in time, energy, flexibility, and memories. And what “good value” looks like can change depending on who you’re traveling with and what your trip needs to feel successful.

Being frugal means being intentional — not just finding the lowest number

Sometimes yes — a value resort and snacks from the grocery store and your family has the best week of their lives.

Sometimes no — and a small upgrade in the right place changes everything.

There's no single right Disney vacation. The best one is the one that fits your family, your priorities, and your actual budget.

The right plan saves you money AND your sanity.
